The ACTS Prayer

ADORATION

What is a prayer of Adoration?

In prayers of adoration, we exalt the greatness of God and we acknowledge our dependence on Him.

1 Chronicles 29:10b-13: "Blessed are you, O Lord, the God of Israel our father, forever and ever. Yours, O Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, for all that is in the heavens and in the earth is yours. Yours is the kingdom, O Lord, and you are exalted as head above all. Both riches and honor come from you, and you rule over all. In your hand are power and might, and in your hand it is to make great and to give strength to all. And now we thank you, our God, and praise your glorious name."

CONFESSION

What is a prayer of confession?

In prayers of confession, we acknowledge our sin to God and allow Him to work in our hearts to conform us to His image. He is faithful to forgive us of our sins.

1 John 1:9: "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."

THANKSGIVING

What is a prayer of thanksgiving?

In prayers of thanksgiving, we are voicing to God that we are grateful for all the ways He takes care of His children.

Psalm 100: "Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth! Serve the Lord with gladness! Come into his presence with singing! Know that the Lord, he is God! It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless his name! For the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations."

SUPPLICATION

What is a prayer of supplication?

In prayers of supplication, call on the Lord to move in specific situations. We pray reverently, but also with confidence and authority knowing that God hears us.

Philippians 4:6-7: "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."
